Merson is entitled to an opinion in the same way as I'm entitled to mine.
Merson fuck off you ginger cunt.

Him and Lanzini do go missing in second half of games. Not slagging him off but people have got carried away with him, bit like Song getting MOM every game in his first few months with us.
Give me Paolo any day....

He's been in this season, especially as it was his first season in English football. I'm hoping he can be even better next season as he adapts a bit more!

Re: Merson on Payet
This is the sort of shit Messi and Ronaldo get. As soon as their goal to game ratio drops to less than 1 a game everyone claims they're having a bad spell and aren't as good as they once was!

Payet has 12 goals and 12 assists from 38 appearences, being the standout player by some distance. Trying to pick holes in his performances is ridiculous.

Re: Merson on Payet
It is so much harder to be a creative player than it is to be a destructive player.
That's why it is so difficult for Payet to be consistent and so easy for someone like a Robbie Savage.

Re: Merson on Payet
I sort of agree with Merson a very good player but not a world beater he seems to do just enough in some games brilliant in others and nowt in others a bit sorry to say like Mesut Ozil who he is a world cup winner sadly to get the full maximum from Payet the team have to work harder tracking back leaving him to do his thing.
If Payet tracks back all the time then you lose some of his potency and he can get lost in a game which has happened several times this season without him even tracking back that much.

Sorry meant to say he also had a run and shot away to Bournemouth, and also in the first half against Everton away against the fella who injured him.

I wonder what our fans expect sometimes, I really do.

Re: Merson on Payet
How about the goal against Blackburn? Run from the half way line didn't he?

Those sort of things in a game are instinct and if the opportunity arises. Some games they just don't.

He's been absolutely sensational this season. Fucking incredible.

One Mac ~
Possibly more effective in the way he's influened games with sublime free kicks & incredibly clever passes but there's been fewer of those runs where he's made monkeys out of several defenders at a time
Perhaps it's psychological in as far as after he's gone past one defender he's part expecting to get a massive clatter from behind from the next
Or perhaps the injury has robbed him of a bit of pace temporarily?

Re: Merson on Payet
He has been better and more effective SINCE his injury for me.

Re: Merson on Payet
Since he has come back from his injury for me he deffo' does drift in and out of games... what he has done is normally pop up with a world class assist or free kick...

Just being controversial for the sake of it.

I've been disappointed with payets clearances defending near post corners this season and he's lack of ability to player centre half tbh

Alex

Is Paul Merson really slagging someone off for being a luxury player who drifts in and out of games? Someone should remind him he was a poor man's Matt Le Tissier.

Merson despite his offield activities nowhere even near Le Tissier.......IMO

Towards the latter part of the season Payet looked physically and mentally nackered. And who can blame him. Can't think of many players who have had such an influence in their first season.

Funny, on sky sports a few weeks ago when we beat WBA he was absolutely raving about Payet.

I think payet is a great player and we are a great side with him playing.

The only time I've seen him not wanting the ball was in the cup replay against man Utd, which led to their first goal
